Community volunteers are trained and then paired with a patient or carer from Cranford Hospice.
Volunteers have weekly contact either in person or over the phone with the patient/carer.
Volunteers are a listening ear for patients/carers. Volunteers are someone they can talk to about anything in a safe and confidential space.
Volunteers are supported by the Volunteer Coordinator and the wider Cranford Hospice Family Support Team.
There are also regular check-ins and monthly meetings where volunteers can debrief.
Volunteers commit to approximately a 1 hour visit or phone call per week.
Full training is provided.
Volunteers need to have an interest in people and their stories and an ability to actively listen and be non-judgmental.
Volunteers need to be comfortable with people who have a life limiting condition.
Confidentiality is essential.
