Servers for early morning breakfast Friday 22 March 2024

The Ātea a Rangi delivers Māori/Pacific environmental programmes and events for the community.

We need volunteers at Te whakawhitinga o te rā o ngahuru (autumn equinox) on Friday 22 March 6.30am - 8.00am.

This event will be held at Waitangi Regional Park in Clive.

The programme includes morning karakia, sunrise, environmental kōrero from experts that live amongst us on what is happening in the taiao at this time of the year.

Volunteers will asked to serve to:-

  • serve hot and cold drinks
  • serve a light breakfast - kai
  • clean up afterwards
  • sort  out recycling and compostable waste

As well getting a Te Ao Māori/Pacific experience volunteers will:-

  • Learning how to prep and feed people in a marquee setting. This skill is transferable to a Marae or any big gathering
  • Learn and practice para kore/zero waste and waste minimalisation, sorting and recycling
  • Learn about Māori/Pacific beliefs about the taiao/environment, the suns movement, stars - traditional celestial navigation
  • Meeting interesting people from the Ātea a Rangi trust and the waka hourua Te Matau a Māui
  • Meet different communities
  • Become aware of environmental awareness, preservation, work
  • Learn about rubbish clean ups and planting native/endemic plants
  • Learning about security and carpark management skills
