Board Members

Age Concern promotes dignity and respect for all older people as well as providing expert information and support services in response to older people's needs.

We are seeking Board members who have skills of critical thinking, strategic planning, financial understanding, risk management and cultural expertise to support the growth of the organisation by ensuring they remain strong and aligned to the organisation's mission, vision, and values.

There are up to 10 Board meetings a year. 

These are held on the third Monday of every month and last approximately 90 minutes.

The type of person we are looking for (is): 

Skills/competencies sought.

We are looking for board members who can contribute to the overall governance of our organisation by assisting in setting the strategic direction; monitoring progress towards strategic goals; allocating reserves and monitoring and maintaining financial viability. Liaising with the community about the work of the agency is another important aspect.

Interested candidates must have a genuine interest in and passion for the cause, and the ability to work with others from diverse backgrounds to achieve positive outcomes.

We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who is interested in joining the Board who have some of the following attributes:

  • Sound experience in governance roles
  • Strong community engagement and vibrant networks
  • Professional experience in any of the following; accounting, law, human resources, fundraising or marketing
  • An understanding of The Treaty of Waitangi/Te Tiriti,
  • Connections or experience working collaboratively with iwi and/or other ethnic communities
