The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Scheme (HDS) is a simple tool for someone to voluntarily share that they have a disability or condition that may not be immediately apparent – and that they may need a helping hand, understanding, or more time in shops, at work, on transport, or in public spaces. This valuable international scheme is also growing in momentum in N.Z.
This particular role is about supporting Heather as a volunteer Scheme Ambassador where she works passionately to promote and educate about the scheme in the Hawke’s Bay area.
What tasks does the role involve?
Heather herself requires some support in order to carry out her role which includes:
- Writing & reading emails, assistance with answering Facebook posts, support with phone calls to organise meetings/stalls. Conveying information to/from Heather.
Help would be provided initially to help you gain a better understanding of the HDS scheme.
Where and when?
The tasks will be carried out at the Scheme Ambassador's home, Tamatea, Napier. We are unable to reimburse travel costs as Heather is working as a volunteer herself.
- Once weekly on Wednesday mornings (day is negotiable) for 2 hours. This may increase as more interest is generated with the scheme.
- has good organisational skills to support Heather develop a wider network to promote the scheme.
- has good social and communication skills as you will be speaking with members of the public and organisations.
- be confident and capable using email (Outlook), Facebook and website.
