Life review work has been shown to enhance the meaning and quality of a patient’s life and to provide them and their family with an ongoing ‘legacy’.
Our trained life review volunteers assist our patients to produce a variety of legacy items including their life story book, letters for family and friends and eulogies.
Volunteers record a patient’s memories and transcribe and edit these to produce a book or letters which are treasured by the patient and their family.
Volunteers undergo full training for their role and ongoing support is provided by the volunteer coordinator, supervision meetings and the family support team.
We are looking for volunteers who are person centred, empathetic and non-judgemental with an interest in people and their stories, and an ability to actively listen.
Volunteers need to:
- be comfortable with people who have a life limiting condition.
- have their own computer and mobile phone.
- have computer literacy, transcribing and editing skills.
- have an ability to learn and use recording devices/programs
