The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower (HDS) is a simple tool for someone to voluntarily share that they have a disability or condition that may not be immediately apparent – and that they may need a helping hand, understanding, or more time in shops, at work, on transport, or in public spaces. This valuable international scheme is also growing in momentum in N.Z. Heather works passionately as a volunteer ambassador for this scheme in the Hawke’s Bay area.
Heather is looking for an organised and energised person who genuinely cares about promoting community access and inclusivity for people with non-visible disabilities. Being someone who is comfortable in group settings and public speaking would be a good fit.
What does the role involve?
Heather herself requires some support in order to carry out her role:
• Supporting Heather to present about the scheme at public and organisational meetings and at market stalls.
Where will I be carrying out the role?
• Generally, meetings and stalls will be within the Hastings/Napier area and sometimes in Central Hawke's Bay. Transport for events will be in Heather's vehicle. Regrettably personal transport costs cannot be reimbursed as Heather is a volunteer, herself.
How often would I be needed?
• Initially twice monthly, with great potential to be more often.
• has good organisational and time keeping skills.
• is confident with public speaking and one to one interactions as you will be speaking to a variety of individuals, groups and organisations.
Help would be provided to help you gain a gain a better understanding of the Hidden Disabilities Scheme.
