CWA Napier gives free trishaw rides to Napier’s seniors & isolated by those who love cycling and wanting to give back to their community. The passengers are happy and enjoy the wind in their hair again.
CWA Napier, a registered charity, is the Napier chapter of the global based organisation called Cycling without Age. Created in 2012 in Copenhagen, Napier is one of 3000 plus chapters in more than 39 countries that brings the simple enjoyment of a bike ride to Napier’s senior community.
CWA need cyclists to be volunteer pilots and companion riders for the triobike/trishaw passenger rides.
But it's much more than just a bike ride, can a triobike ride change the world? We believe so and documented research upholds the health and wellness of being out in the open air, with the sun on your face, a kind pilot to chat with, people who smile when they see you coming toward them and who want to stop to chat. Happiness is a trishaw/triobike ride.
Mission Statement: We dream of creating a world together, in which the access to active citizenship creates happiness among our fellow elderly citizens by providing them with an opportunity to remain an active part of society and the local community.
We do that by giving our passengers, the right to wind in their hair, the right to experience the city and nature close up from the bicycle and by giving them an opportunity to tell their story in the environment where they have lived their lives. That way we build bridges between generations and we reinforce trust, respect and the social glue in our society.
