Triobike Pilots

Why Become a Cycling Without Age Volunteer?
Becoming a volunteer with Cycling Without Age is about so much more than riding a bike. It’s about connection, joy, and community.
When you take someone for a ride on a trishaw, you’re giving them the chance to:
  • Feel the wind in their hair
  • Connect with their local community
  • Share stories and laughter along the journey
  • Experience the outdoors in a way that might otherwise not be possible.
For our volunteers, the benefits are just as special:
💚 Meet wonderful people and hear incredible life stories
💚 Stay active while making a difference
💚 Experience the simple joy of giving back
💚 Whether it’s once a month or once a week, your time as a volunteer can make someone’s day & often, their week.

We often hear from the elderly "I miss cycling or getting fresh air." Come and be a pilot, and let them feel the wind in their hair again and get lots of fresh air. When we grow older, we tend to lose our personal mobility; and along with that, the simple pleasures of just being outdoors, feeling the sun on your skin, the wind in your hair, and seeing the world go by. Cycling Without Age is about reliving those experiences – it’s all about connecting people with their community and lifting spirits, it's an amazing experience. Nothing beats witnessing the joy of the elderly, pilots and people who interact on and around the Triobike (trishaw), and seeing the smiles of passengers coming back from their first ride with wind in their hair, rosy cheeks and full of stories. Be a part of the movement of Cycling Without Age spreading all over the world and right here in Napier.

Our electric assist triobikes are waiting for you to step on the pedals as a pilot (after training) and get Napier's elderly community out to see the world again. Here, you can make a difference in a rewarding community volunteer role while meeting new people and even getting some exercise.

If you can cycle and agree with our guiding principles – then come and train to become a pilot with Cycling Without Age. If you are experienced on an electric bicycle or a cargo bike, then you won’t need much practice before you are 'on the road' meaning - the bike path. As long as you can ride a bicycle and a desire to help others, then there is plenty of space for you. Our pilots come from many walks of life and we train them based on the CWA Guiding principles. Our guiding Principles:
Generosity: Cycling Without Age is based on generosity and kindness. It starts with the obvious generous act of taking one or two elderly or less-abled people out on a bike ride. It’s a simple act that everyone can do.

Slowness: Slowness allows you to sense the environment, be present in the moment and it allows people you meet along the way to be curious and gain knowledge about Cycling Without Age because you make time to stop and talk.

Storytelling: Older adults have so many stories that will be forgotten if we don’t reach out and listen to them. We tell stories, we listen to stories on the bike and we also document the stories when we share them via word of mouth or on social media.

Relationships: Cycling Without Age is about creating a multitude of new relationships: between generations, among older adults, between pilots and passengers, care home employees and family members. Relationships build trust, happiness and quality of life.

Without Age: Life unfolds at all ages, young and old, and can be thrilling, fun, sad, beautiful and meaningful. Cycling Without Age is about letting people age in a positive context – fully aware of the opportunities that lie ahead when interacting in their local community.
