Animal-assisted therapy has been shown to promote emotional wellbeing, and contact with gentle animals provides comfort and helps people to be happier. Hato Hone St John has developed a programme to share animal companions within local rest homes, hospitals and schools within the local community.
Therapy Pets is a voluntary programme that enhances the lives of others, and we need your help! We are looking for a passionate and driven individual to become a second Therapy Pet Team Leader for our Hawkes Bay team.
You will:
- Provide support and mentoring to the team of Therapy Pet Volunteers
- Recruit new volunteers, match volunteers and their pets with suitable facilities
- Liaise with facilities visited by volunteers
- Monthly reporting and liaising with local St John
- Organising recognition events and team connects
Please note, this is a voluntary position.
This role is flexible and can work around your availability, ideally you will be able to commit at least 2-3 hours per week. You have the option of joining the Therapy Pets volunteers with your pet, but this is not mandatory.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Excellent communication skills, an empathetic personality, and a genuine interest in the well-being of others
- Previous team management experience
- Administration experience
- Love of animals (experience working with animals is a plus)
- Competent computer skills
- Over 18 years of age
- Clean criminal record
