This Saturday, Volunteering Hawke’s Bay is bringing together boards and operational leaders from nine volunteer-involving organisations for Getting Your Board Onboard — a practical one-day governance workshop in Hastings.
Facilitated by Megan Thorn from Exult, the workshop will explore the key foundations of effective governance, including:
• Board roles and responsibilities
• Vision, mission and values
• Effective meetings and board practices
• Succession planning
• Strategic oversight and planning
• Governance models for not-for-profit organisations
The day will be interactive and focused on real-world challenges, giving participants practical tools and ideas they can take back to their organisations.
Strong governance is essential to building sustainable, effective community organisations. By investing in the skills and confidence of boards and leaders, we’re helping strengthen local organisations, improve volunteer experiences and support the wellbeing of our communities.
The workshop was successfully delivered in Napier in 2025 and, for the first time, is being offered in Hastings — helping build local governance capability across the district.
