Compassion in action
Carma is an exceptional volunteer whose dedication, leadership, and compassion have made a profound impact across multiple sectors in our region.
As the long-standing Team Leader of the Red Cross Disaster Response and Welfare Team, Carma has guided her team through both regional and national weather emergencies with unwavering strength and clarity. Her calm and steady leadership during times of crisis has brought comfort and support to countless individuals and families.
She also helped pioneer the FENZ Recovery Team—New Zealand’s only team of its kind. Under her leadership, the team now provides fire crisis response from Dannevirke to Wairoa, offering vital assistance to communities during their most vulnerable moments.
Her passion for animal welfare is equally inspiring. As a founding committee member of Ruahine Animal Rescue, Carma has personally fostered over 20 dogs and manages the organisation’s duty phone.
Carma’s dedication is not only impressive—it is transformative. Her contributions span human welfare, emergency services, and animal rescue, her benevolent leadership continues to shape a stronger, more caring region. The communities of Hawke’s Bay extend their heartfelt thanks and admiration to you Carma, we are truly thankful for all that you give.
